Directors Guild of Canada –
Manitoba District Council

The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) is a national labour organization representing key creative and logistical personnel in the screen-based industries. The Guild was established in 1962 as an association of Canada’s creative film directors, and represents members covering all areas of direction, design, production and editing. DGC - Manitoba District Council (DGC - MDC) represents over 200 members locally in the Assistant Director, Director, Production, Locations, Accounting and Editing departments.

When a production company signs an agreement with DGC – MDC they agree to hire DGC – MDC members. When there are no DGC-MDC Members available, production will review Member Apprentice Program availability lists and MDC Source list to fill these positions.

Requirements for working on a DGC-MDC production:

• You must be at least 18 years of age

• You will need a current resume

• You may require a Manitoba Driver’s License

• Do you know what kind of job you are looking for? (DGC-MDC represented departments are Assistant Director, Director, Production, Locations, Accounting and Editing)

• Take Set Orientation and WHMIS and Safety Awareness courses through Film Training Manitoba

• Once you have completed your required courses, and if you HAVE NOT worked any days on a DGC production, sign up to be listed on the MDC Source List.

• Once you have worked for 15 days on a DGC-MDC production you are encouraged to apply for the DGC–MDC–Member Apprentice Program (MAP).

• If you have never worked on a film set you can get some experience by volunteering on a student or independent project.

• You can also get on set by doing extra or background acting work. You will be able to see what happens on set and see how film technicians work together. Register to be listed on background casting databases:
