The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) is a national labour organization representing key creative and logistical personnel in the screen-based industries. The Guild was established in 1962 as an association of Canada’s creative film directors, and represents members covering all areas of direction, design, production and editing. DGC - Manitoba District Council (DGC - MDC) represents over 200 members locally in the Assistant Director, Director, Production, Locations, Accounting and Editing departments.
When a production company signs an agreement with DGC – MDC they agree to hire DGC – MDC members. When there are no DGC-MDC Members available, production will review Member Apprentice Program availability lists and MDC Source list to fill these positions.
Requirements for working on a DGC-MDC production:
You must be at least 18 years of age
You will need a current resume
You may require a Manitoba Driver’s License
Do you know what kind of job you are looking for? (DGC-MDC represented departments are Assistant Director, Director, Production, Locations, Accounting and Editing)
If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada, and normally reside in the province of Manitoba, you may apply to join the DGC Manitoba District Council in any job classification they represent. Once you become a DGC Member, you are entitled to work under DGC jurisdiction anywhere in Canada.
IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR AN ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP IN THE DGC MANITOBA DISTRICY COUNCIL, AN INDIVIDUAL MUST:
Successfully completed the MDC-Membership Apprentice Program (MDC-MAP)
orHave completed 150 days as a Permittee on at least three MDC Signatory Productions
Have completed the required training courses outlined on the MDC Training Page
Once you have completed your required courses, and if you HAVE NOT worked any days on a DGC production, sign up to be listed on the MDC Source List.
Once you have worked for 15 days on a DGC-MDC production you are encouraged to apply for the DGC–MDC–Member Apprentice Program (MAP).
IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR FULL MEMBERSHIP IN THE DGC - MDC, AN INDIVIDUAL MUST:
Complete 150 days in the job classification you are applying for
Complete the required training courses outlined on the MDC Training Page
Full membership in the Manitoba District Council is all job classifications we represent, excluding Production Assistants & Trainees.
